AkaFlieg’s workshop is located in Pfungstadt. Utilizing a variety of tools like a lathe or our cnc milling machine, members are able to build, maintain and repair different airplanes.
Most of the work, however, is done by hand. A particulary common one of these all-manual processes is called laminating: In order to obtain fibre composites, sheets of (carbon) fibre fabric are carefully placed into a designated mold and thereafter soaked in synthetic resin using a paint roller. Once dry, two otherwise unconspicuous components form a very robust and lightweight material known as fibre-reinforced composite.
