Our Workshop

Utilizing a variety of tools like a lathe or our cnc milling machine, members are able to build, maintain and repair different airplanes.
Most of the work, however, is done by hand. A particulary common one of these all-manual processes is called laminating: In order to obtain fibre composites, sheets of (carbon) fibre fabric are carefully placed into a designated mold and thereafter soaked in synthetic resin using a paint roller. Once dry, two otherwise unconspicuous components form a very robust and lightweight material known as fibre-reinforced composite.
AkaFlieg’s workshop manager/ supervisor Dennis Patzig is an aircraft builder by trade and oversees all projects and operations. All new prototypes are developed here using the latest CAD technology. Since numeric calculations like computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are vital in order to simulate the new aircraft’s aerodynamic properties, a high performance computer is also located on the workshop’s second floor.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
